Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 June 2026
This page is maintained by the ConnectHustle team to explain how we handle your personal information. It is not a legal certification. If you spot something out of date, email hello@connecthustle.com.
1. Who we are
ConnectHustle ("we", "us") operates the ConnectHustle marketplace connecting customers with local workers in South Africa. We act as the Responsible Party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA").
Operating contact: hello@connecthustle.com. Full legal entity details will be added once registered — contact us for the current Information Officer details.
2. What we collect
- Account info: name, email, phone, profile photo, password (hashed by our auth provider).
- Profile info you choose to share: bio, skills, location text, ratings, and reviews.
- Job activity: jobs you post or accept, messages with the other party, attachments you upload to chat, completion proof photos.
- ID verification (optional but required to cash out): a photo of a government-issued ID and a selfie holding it. Stored in a private bucket and shared only with our review team.
- Payment info: amounts, status, and references. Card and bank details are entered on PayFast's checkout — we never see or store your card number.
- Technical info: IP address, device, browser, and basic usage events needed to keep the service secure.
3. Why we use it
- To run the marketplace: matching jobs to workers, processing escrow payments, and enabling chat.
- To verify identity and reduce fraud before unlocking withdrawals.
- To send transactional notifications (job updates, payment status, ratings requests).
- To resolve disputes and respond to support requests.
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations in South Africa.
4. Who we share it with
We share only what each party needs to do their job:
- The other party on a job sees your display name, profile photo, ratings, and messages you send.
- PayFast (Payfast (Pty) Ltd) processes card and EFT payments.
- Supabase (our backend provider) stores the database, files, and authentication records.
- Cloudflare hosts the app and processes web traffic.
- Law enforcement or regulators when we are legally required to disclose information.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. How long we keep it
When you ask us to delete your account we anonymize your records rather than hard-deleting them: your display name, email, phone, profile photo, bio, and ID documents are removed or replaced with non-identifying values, while job history, ratings, and payment records are kept in anonymized form. This lets us protect the other party's history of the transaction and meet South African tax and accounting record-keeping requirements (generally 5 years).
ID verification documents are deleted from storage within 30 days of a successful or rejected review, unless we are legally required to keep them longer.
6. Your rights under POPIA
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to fix information that is wrong or out of date.
- Deletion / anonymization — ask us to remove your account as described above.
- Object — object to processing in specific circumstances.
- Complain — lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at https://inforegulator.org.za.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@connecthustle.com.
7. Security
Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider. Database access is restricted by row-level security so users can only read data tied to their own account or jobs they participate in. ID documents and chat attachments live in private buckets that require a short-lived signed link to read. No system is unbreakable — please use a strong, unique password and keep your device secure.
8. Children
ConnectHustle is intended for users 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has signed up, contact us and we will remove the account.
9. Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app and the "Last updated" date above will change.
